Valcartier Village Vacances and the Ice Hotel: the Big Family Day Out From Sainte-Foy

Tourist GuideValcartier Village Vacances and the Ice Hotel: the Big Family Day Out From Sainte-Foy

About twenty-five minutes from Hôtel Classique, at 2280 boulevard Valcartier in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier, sits the largest family entertainment destination in the Quebec City region. It is the kind of place you plan a full day for — and still run short.

Summer: the outdoor water park

From late June to late August, Valcartier opens its vast outdoor water park: slides for every comfort level, themed rivers, a wave pool and splash zones for younger children. It is among the most complete installations in the country.

Plan a full day, arrive early and book tickets online — July and August weekends regularly sell out.

Winter: the snow playground

From December, the site becomes a winter playground: snow tubing, skating and snow rafting. It is one of the region’s most popular winter activities, and the logistics are simple — everything happens on one site.

Bora Parc: the indoor water park, open year-round

Bora Parc deserves its own mention. This indoor water park spans more than 100,000 square feet, is kept at 30 °C year-round, and features fourteen slides, a wave pool, an adventure river and a double surf wave in a Polynesian setting.

It is the perfect answer to a rainy summer day — or a February snowstorm.

The Ice Hotel: a North American original

Every winter, the Ice Hotel is sculpted anew on the Valcartier site. Its themed rooms, chapel and ice bar draw visitors from around the world. A daytime visit requires no overnight booking and makes a memorable outing on its own.

Back to Sainte-Foy the same evening

The advantage of staying on boulevard Laurier rather than on site is the return: twenty-five minutes of highway, free parking waiting for you, and the hotel’s heated indoor pool to wind down. For families, the day stays full without becoming exhausting.

It also keeps your options open. Valcartier is a full-day commitment, but it is not the whole trip. From Sainte-Foy you can pair it with a morning of shopping on boulevard Laurier, an afternoon in Old Québec or a quiet walk along the river — none of which is practical if you are based out at the resort itself.

One last practical note: a suite with a kitchenette makes a real difference on a family trip built around a day like this. Being able to handle breakfast and a late snack on your own schedule takes the pressure off both ends of a long day.
